Airless Packaging: Why is it important?

Airless Packaging Is Crucial For Medical-Grade Skincare

Medical-grade active ingredients break down in the presence of air and light. Dispensing products from non-airless packaging lets air in, deteriorating these important ingredients and making them less effective with each use.

what is airless packaging?

The name gives a pretty clear indication – it is a sophisticated dispensing system that doesn't allow air or light to contact the product. It is a non-pressurized vacuum dispensing system that utilizes a mechanical pump in a bottle. As you push down on the pump, the disc in the bottle rises to push the product out of the pump.

benefits of airless packaging technology

preserving active ingredients

DermExcel airless packaging technology ensures that our complex formulas stay potent and effective until the last drop. It is filled using a unique stabilizing process, allowing for next-to-zero oxygen exposure.

Airless packaging allows the ingredients to remain active at their highest concentration. This is incredibly important for DermExcel, as our products contain the highest concentration of active ingredients, making it imperative to use airless packaging.

Using airless packaging, DermExcel provides a high-end product with the highest level of active ingredients that are effective to the last drop.

The FDA has specifically named poor protective packaging and contamination key factors in promoting bacterial growth in cosmetics.

Reliable dispensing and no product waste

Airless packaging does not waste products. It is leakproof and uses a disc system to dispense products. The disc that pushes the product up from the bottom has an airtight seal along the edges, scraping every last bit of product up along the way. The user can dispense a product down to the last drop.

prevent contamination

In addition to giving the product a longer shelf life, airless packaging is the most sterile on the market. It seals the product in an airtight chamber, preventing contamination. A measured dose of the product is automatically dispensed per pump.

Skincare products' bacterial, fungal, and yeast growth can pose health dangers. Repeatedly exposing your skincare products to air contaminants and light can encourage the growth of unwanted organisms.

Keep formula stable

Protection from air and light helps keep skin care products stable. However, light, air, heat, and other environmental variables can cause emulsification to break down over time, impacting the product's usability.

Airless pump bottles are double-walled, so products are protected from temperature, humidity, and sunlight, which can cause the product to break down and negatively affect its efficacy. This results in a safer, healthier, and more effective skincare product that delivers the clinical results users desire.

DermExcel airless packaging technology protects the efficacy of our ingredients while making dispensing more manageable and reliable.

Troubleshooting Airless Packaging

1. Using your product for the first time

When you first receive your airless pump bottle, pump the top a few times, and your product should start dispensing normally. Since our bottles do not contain a straw, it's essential to note that a few empty pumps at the beginning are completely normal - some bottles may take up to 10-30 pumps if they have been sitting for a while. We recommend priming the pump if you’re not getting any product after 10 pumps (see below).

2. The priming procedure

  • Make sure the pump is connected tightly to the bottle.
  • Tap the bottle’s base on a hard surface three or four times.
  • Turn the bottle upside-down and slowly pump the dispenser about 15 times.
  • Repeat these steps as needed.

Sometimes, the internal disc can get stuck. This common occurrence can be resolved easily by re-priming the packaging (as explained above).

Important

Do not remove the pump if you ever experience difficulty with your airless pump bottle. Doing so can damage the airless pumping mechanism and introduce air into the bottle, jeopardizing the product’s purity and potency over time.

Airless packaging

The base: There's a tiny hole in the bottom, which powers the vacuum effect and allows air to be inserted.

The plate: Inside the bottle is a plate or a disc where the beauty product sits.

The pump: A vacuum effect is created by the pumping action to extract the product.

Important: There is not supposed to be a "straw" in the packaging.
