Scientific data

UVB Filters

  • Uvinul® MC 80 ultraviolet absorber is a liquid UVB filter, oil-soluble, with very good protection potential. It is an FDA Category-1 sunscreen and is approved worldwide.

  • Uvinul® T 150 (Ethylhexyl Triazone) is a new generation sunscreen that gives the highest photo-stable absorption of all available UVB filters today. It protects in the UVB range (280-320nm) with a peak protection of 314nm. The polar nature of Uvinul® T 150 gives it good affinity to the keratin in the skin,
so that formulations in which it is used are particularly water-resistant.

Broad Spectrum Filters

Tinosorb S is one of the best sunscreen agents known today. It is a broad-spectrum (covers the whole UVB and UVA range, 280-400 nm) sunscreen agent with peak protections at about 310 and 345 nm, and it's very photostable. It hardly deteriorates in the presence of UV light and it's also useful in stabilizing other less stable sunscreen agents.

It's a new generation sunscreen agent that was specifically designed for high SPF and good UVA protection and based on a 2007 study that compared 18 sunscreen agents available in the EU it really had the best SPF protection. It is oil-soluble and is not absorbed into the skin too much. This is good news for a sunscreen agent as it needs to be on the surface of the skin to do its job properly.

It has a great safety profile and does not show estrogenic activity. This agent is known to prevent the formation of free radicals induced by UV radiation to a significant level. It will minimize erythema (redness), and provide excellent anti-aging effects as well as protect the skin's antioxidant defense system.

Tinosorb M is also a new generation sunscreen agent and a very special one at that: It's a "hybrid" sunscreen meaning it's half-way between physical (the ones that, at least partly, reflect the sun) and chemical agents (that absorb the rays).

It gives good broad-spectrum coverage (280-400 nm, meaning UVB as well as UVA protection) with peak protection at 305 nm and 360 nm and it is highly photostable.

Its hybrid nature means that it is organic like the chemical agents, but it is neither water nor oil soluble and works as a suspension of micro fine particles.

The safety profile of Tinosorb M is great.

Titanium Dioxide is one of the two members of the elite sunscreen group called physical sunscreens.

Traditionally, UV-filters are categorized as either chemical or physical. The big difference is supposed to be that chemical agents absorb UV-light while physical agents reflect it like a bunch of mini umbrellas on top of the skin. While this categorization is easy and logical it turns out it's not true. A recent, 2016 study shows that inorganic sunscreens work mostly by absorption, just like chemical filters, and only a little bit by reflection (they do reflect the light in the visible spectrum, but mostly absorb in the UV spectrum).

Titanium Dioxide is a pretty awesome sunscreen agent for two main reasons: it gives a nice broad spectrum coverage and it's highly stable. Its protection is very good between 290 - 350 nm (UVB and UVA II range), and less good at 350-400 nm (UVA I) range. Regular sized Titanium Dioxide also has a great safety profile, it's non-irritating and is pretty much free from any health concerns.

Antioxidants

Ubiquinone is an antioxidant found naturally in human cells where it plays a big role in energy production. Studies have shown Ubiquinone to absorb into the upper layer of the skin and act there like an awesome antioxidant. It not only has preventative effects but might also be able to reduce the depth of wrinkles.

Vitamin E is the major fat-soluble antioxidant in our skin. As a strong antioxidant, it’s an A-player in protecting the skin cells from free-radicals that destroy collagen that makes our skin nice and firm. There are lots of studies showing that Vit E has some nice photoprotection properties, meaning it can protect the skin from UV (and in the case of Vit E it’s mainly UVB) rays. If you put it on your skin, it lowers the production of sunburn cells, reduces the damage caused by UVB rays, and inhibits photocarcinogenesis.

InfraGuard is an antioxidant, anti-aging and protective agent. It neutralizes radicals & provides protection against infrared, blue light and IR oxidative stress. It prevents the loss of skin density upon sun exposure. It blocks reactive oxygen species formation (ROS) and inhibits MMP-1 upregulation in fibroblasts after infrared irradiation. It scavenges 100% of ROS induced by infrared inside the mitochondria, protecting cellular DNA and functions.

Moreover, InfraGuard significantly protects essential skin cells from high energy visible (HEV) light, also known as blue light. Blue light is emitted by mobile devices and computer screens and generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the skin.

    Proven efficacy:

    In vitro -

    • Antioxidant power compared to that of Vitamin C
    • Protection of mitochondrial functions
    • Protection of the mitochondria against IR- induced damages
    • Inhibition of the IR-induced reduction of DNA content in mitochondria
    • Blocking of the IR-induced MMP-1 overproduction

    In vivo -

    • Increase of skin firmness and density despite sun exposure (UV+IR)

      Emollients and Humectants

Squalane is a superb moisturizer that makes your skin nice and smooth, without being heavy or greasy. Another advantage of squalane is that it is pretty much compatible with all skin types and skin conditions. It is excellent for acne-prone skin and safe to use even if you have fungi-related skin issues, like seborrhea or fungal acne. Squalane has anti-inflammatory properties by targeting pro- and anti-inflammatory mediators and pathways to modulate over-activation of neutrophils, monocytes, and macrophages.

Glycerin is a natural moisturizer that helps to maintain the healthy state of our skin in several ways. It helps to maintain a healthy state of the cell membranes and intracellular lipids (keeping the lipids in a nice liquid crystal state that is optimal for barrier function).
