AGING . OILY . PIGMENTATION
Your Profile
Your skin has two significant upsides: you have adequate oil (sebum) that provides antioxidant protection, and your resistant skin is not prone to inflammation.
You have two barriers to skin health: Signs of aging and pigmentation. To counteract these barriers, you need potent and effective medical-grade products. Luckily, your skin can usually tolerate these better than sensitive skin types can.
AOP skin can face pigmentation problems such as melasma, dark spots, uneven skin tone, and signs of premature aging. Most AOP skin fits into one of three categories:
- A younger person with significant sun exposure, who usually dislikes the feel of sunscreen due to the oiliness of their skin.
- A woman with melasma that may be due to pregnancy or hormone use.
- Someone over the age of 30 who did not use much sunscreen in the past.
Your skin will greatly benefit from you making healthy lifestyle decisions and using skincare products with the correct active ingredients. You may feel that your skin lacks radiance, but fortunately, it’s never too late to turn it around and achieve a luminous and healthy complexion.

Resistant skin

No Inflammation

Hydrated
AOP skin types do not have to worry about dryness, flaking, itching, redness, sensitivity, or inflammatory skin conditions like rosacea or eczema.
Your skin produces enough sebum (oil) to keep your skin’s protective barrier healthy and functioning correctly. This allows adequate moisture to be sealed inside while keeping irritants and allergens from penetrating your skin.

Pigmentation

Aging skin

Enlarged pores
Pigmentation and premature skin aging are the main concerns of AOP skin. Pigmentation concerns such as dark spots and uneven skin tone occur when melanocytes produce too much melanin, the pigment that gives your skin its color.
AOP types who are over 30 years old or have a history of not using sunscreen experience signs of aging such as lines and wrinkles.
Some AOP skin types may experience shiny skin with enlarged pores.
- Uneven skin tone with dark spots or patches.
- Enlarged pores.
- Premature skin aging.
- Smooth skin texture.
- Radiant skin with an even skin tone.
- Reduced appearance of large pores.
- Protection and correction of premature skin aging incl. lines, wrinkles.
TREATMENT OBJECTIVES FOR AOP SKIN

Increase cell turnover and smooth skin texture. Replace dull and dead skin cells with remodelled skin layers. Resurfacing procedures can induce new collagen formation with a more structured pattern.

Correct skin damage and protect skin against environmental damage and premature aging. Stop and prevent collagen destruction by inhibiting the activity of free radicals and MMPs (enzymes that cause collagen and elastin destruction).

Hydrate and moisturize the skin on a cellular level. Increase the skin's ability to attract and hold on to moisture. Support and enable the skin to produce natural moisturizing factors.

Stimulate collagen production and formation. Boost the protective skin layer by increasing the production of elastin, collagen, ceramides, and lipids.

Inhibit all the pathways in the hyperpigmentation process to stop the stimulation and transfer of melanin (pigment cells).

PRODUCTS YOU SHOULD AVOID |
---|
Foaming cleansers containing soap & sulfates. Fragrance & colorants in skincare products. |
Toners containing witch-hazel & eucalyptus. |
Damaging lifestyle habits incl. Smoking; tanning beds, excessive sun, and excessive sugar consumption. |
PRODUCTS YOU SHOULD INCLUDE |
---|
Skin identical medical-grade active ingredients that penetrate the dermis - activating a biological response. |
Chemical exfoliants and pigmentation-disrupting ingredients. |
Broad-spectrum sunscreen with antioxidants. |
Salicylic acid to control excessive oil on the skin and prevent clogged pores. |
Retinol to fight premature skin aging, and pigmentation, while simultaneously helping to control sebum production. However, because your skin barrier is intact and functioning as it should, treatment products like retinoids can have trouble reaching the deeper layers of your skin. To remedy this, include hyaluronic acid in your regimen to increase the penetration of your treatment products. Cleansing with warm water will also help to increase penetration. |
