about US ABOUT YOURSELF
I am Linda van der Walt, Entrepreneur, Designer and owner of the locally curated gifts shops, PLAASLIK. I have a 14 year old son, Noah who I do life with. I'm an internationally certified yoga instructor and believe in a balanced life. I have my own jewellery brand, Fabrikate Studio which I started 2013. I love everything local and creative.
What is the Vision of PLAASLIK?
My vision for PLAASLIK is to give creatives a space to further grow their business. PLAASLIK offers makers the opportunity to sell their products in a shop, get their products seen under the right eyes and in the right hands. PLAASLIK is a place where I help creatives elevate their brands. I'm looking forward to opening Franchise opportunities to beautiful towns all over South Africa that also has a passion for local makers.
Where did you find the inspiration?
During lockdown, I started an Instagram page called, Pretoria Products, where I promoted local brands and products to help makers during the difficult Covid period.
Being a designer myself, I know how needed community was. It quickly grew into markets where those local makers could sell their products in person to the public. The local community’s response was so amazing that I decided it needed to be a shop where the local community can support these makers more permanently. In March 2020 the first Pretoria Products Shop opened its doors.
What makes your brand different?
PLAASLIK is not only a shop but a community of creatives, a one stop shop for makers to be showcased and grow their brand. I offer them a place to sell their products as well as consultations and collaborations to further their brand beyond their wildest dreams. My passion for local products and makers makes me work even harder to elevate their brand to the best it can be.
What gives you confidence as the owner of a business?
Balance.... I can't be successful without looking after myself first. I do yoga, I take care of my body and my mind. I constantly learn new skills, and I'm open to life and all its opportunities and challenges. I surrender to what is... it is in acceptance that confidence grows.
